I just posted eleven new pieces in the sculpture section! Have a look. These were all made in preparation for the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. Check out their site for the schedule and if you’re in town and want to go just get in touch with me and I can send you a postcard that’s good for a dollar off admission. I know it’s not a lot, but every dollar counts cause aren’t we in a recession (are we saying that?)

Coffee and lobster men, what a great place to hang out. Here’s a story about that coffee mug. In the church that I went to growing up there was a man named Mr. Flint. He was pretty old. He encouraged boys to wear ties to church. He kept a stack of baseball cards in his pocket and when he saw a boy wearing a tie he would pull out a card and give it to him as a reward. He also raised buffalo. His farm was called Flintlock. Thanks Mr. Flint.

New pieces in the Silhouettes section. They’re my favorite so far.

Anyway click the icon below to download a PDF of the article. You can zoom in pretty far.

Two pieces of small news

Two pieces of small news have just entered the feed room…

One) I was recently blogged (although very, very briefly) along with Halligan. You can see the post here. I’m the small link below all of Halli’s full color glory.

Two) Things are pretty crazy around here at Adam Smith art camp. I’ve been frantically designing and making an expansion on the tintype pin in preparation for the American Craft Show. I’m turning it into a small line that is a little darker than my other jewelry. I had a problem for a little while where I would sacrifice my vision for what I thought was more marketable. That didn’t work like I thought it would, and it made me unhappy, so now I’m doing what I want. And it is certainly making me happy.

A belated merry Christmas

First off, a belated merry Christmas and happy new year. OK now that that’s done…

I was invited to participate in a benefit show for the Poyama Day Treatment Center in Independence, Oregon. It is a psychiatric treatment center for emotionally disturbed children. The host gallery is Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem, Oregon.

They sent 100 artists an 8” x 8” x 2” box to do whatever we wanted with. We were also given a series of questions which we were to present to a young person between 3 and 12 and he was to answer as many as he wanted. My guy was Harrison Kopp of Towamencin, PA. He gave me a great answer. Thanks Harrison.

The show will be up February 5, 2008 – March 1, 2008. There will be a silent auction in the gallery and on their website and all of the money will go to Poyama. Photos of the piece below.

First images of new work!

First images of new work! These are the beginnings of a new series (not sure what to call it yet.) They’re all one-of-a-kind and constructed of copper and/or brass with steel pins. The images are all original antique photographs under encaustic. I love making these and see myself making them for quite a long time.

The second new series are these necklaces. These are all prototypes, the rest of the series will use more streamlined frames. They will be available in brass or silver frames all with silver chains. Maybe in the future I’ll be able to step it up to gold. The glass pieces are watch covers (called watch crystals). Everything inside will be mostly watch parts, especially gears. Dimensions vary from wristwatch size to pocketwatch size.

Pricing on all this will be available soon. If you have any feedback on the new work I’d love to hear it.
